I came across a new offering by LifeStyles, which is one of my two favorite brands.  Skyn condoms are revolutionary in that they are made of neither latex nor polyurethane.  Instead the material used is called polyisoprene, which was originally developed from a  purified form or natural rubber, but is now manufactured synthetically.  Similar in nature to latex, but without inducing nasty allergies.

Pure Pleasure was generous enough to send me a handful of these condoms for testing, which Jack and Aiden were quite fortunately willing to help me out with.

The opinions were mixed.  Jack found them “better than latex, but not as good as polyurethane”.  The sensation was better than standard condoms, but still not as comfortable or as smooth as Avanti or Supra.

Aiden, on the other hand, found them painfully restrictive.  Being…on the larger side, shall we say, pretty much anything ‘standard sized’ is uncomfortable for him however.  So if your penis is bigger than average, and you tend to find regular condoms too tight, these won’t provide the sort of fit you are looking for.

They were sturdy enough, they didn’t break or tear, and we tested them pretty thoroughly, LOL. These condoms are not as thin as polyurethane, but they are stretchier (if you’ve used polyurethane you’ll know what I mean). They have been FDA approved for STI and pregnancy prevention, but as with any new material, there likely haven’t been a lot of longer-term studies done, so I encourage you to do a little research of your own before selecting the right type of condom for you.

The 24 Inch Deluxe Leather Riding Crop (also known around here as ‘the long-tip crop’) is, as you may have guessed, not really intended for use on horses.  Except perhaps of the human variety, but that’s a topic for another post  It is built differently than a standard crop, in that the tip is long and narrowish.  This, in my opinion, covers more area on impact.

Although this particular product is a blend of sea salts and natural moisturizers, and did indeed do nice things for my skin, it’s not a personal favorite.

Unfortunately when it comes to anything scented, it’s really a matter of opinion.  The scent of this particular product is just a little too overpowering and, for lack of a better term, grandmotherly for me.

I did love that the bath crystals came with a little shell-scoop thing, and that they turned the bath water the loveliest shade of blue.  If you are sensitive to strong perfumes in your bath products, I’d steer clear.  As it is designed as a sort of foaming bath product, I would also avoid using it in a jetted tub.

If you have your heart set on something lovely to put in your bathwater, I would highly recommend trying the Kama Sutra Wild Clove Bath Gel.  I totally looooove the spicy scent, and there’s currently a bottle of it in my shower, which I use regularly, and makes my skin silky soft (ask Jack, or Aiden).

That said, I wanted to try something different, and so I decided to test one of Champagne Lights supposed ‘Pheromone Candles’.  Pheromones, you ask?  Pheromones are chemical signals that are given off by some kinds of animals (and a great many types of insects) to trigger a response in other members of the same species.  There are many types of pheromones, but I would assume that the type Champagne Lights had in mind were of the sexual nature.  That said, there is absolutely NO evidence anywhere what products claiming to contain pheromones will actually influence human behaviour at all.  It’s a fun thought, but it just doesn’t work.

My first thought when I caught a wiff of this candle was “Wow, they are using the pheromones from a 75 year old lady”.  It smelled like older lady perfume.  Perhaps I’m in the minority here, but when I think of my grandma, I don’t think sex.  The smell was a turn-off, although I liked that this isn’t a standard wax candle.  The wax is actually in the form of tiny beads, with a wick in the middle.

This candle is very long-burning.  I lit mine and then ignored it for over 2 hours and there had been very little reduction in the wax.  Another plus was that the scent really didn’t spread into the room, so I can still use this candle without worrying that my bedroom will begin smelling like Eau du Great Aunt Mary.

I haven’t tried any of the other scents, but I’d pass on the Midnight Romance, unless you’re into that sort of thing.  Also never fall for the ‘pheromone’ selling point, it’s crap.

Sadly, it was pretty disappointing

While this toy is made of silicone, I didn’t get the impression that it’s of a particularly high quality. The shape and the clitoral stimulator in particular seemed promising, but the vibration intensity was dull at best.  The insertable portion doesn’t move around, so it’s nothing like a rabbit vibe, which isn’t what I was expecting but I can see how some people might.  The vibration is controled by a dial at the base of the toy, but even turned up to the highest setting, it was just ho-hum.

For starters, I would never chose a jelly toy like the Teasin Twist.  It had that weird greasy feeling when I pulled it out of the package, and the awful jelly smell made me wrinkle my nose.  No amount of washing will ever improve the smell or the feel.  Phthalates aside, it’s not the sort of thing I want to put inside any orifice of my body.

Still, being a sport, I opened the end where the batteries go in.  It looked cheaply made, and there was an ambiguous bit of metal sticking out in the middle of the battery chamber.  I put a pair of batteries into it and turned it on.  Basic escalating vibration, but not particularly strong.  I’d also like to add that for an anal sex toy it’s rather long and large.  Not for the inexperienced.

The shaft of the Kama Diva is made from a very hard polyurethane, which is not at all what I was expecting.  There is a certain rigidity about hard plastic sex toys that isn’t generally my cup of tea, particularly for insertables.  When it comes to clitoral stimulation, I’m all for whatever gets me off, but something so unyielding in my vagina almost hurts.  That said, I know a number of ladies who prefer their vibrators to be hard and inflexible, so I’m not docking it points just because I prefer something a little more bendy.

So, I was skeptical of Durex Avanti Polyurethane Condoms, even though V has been using them for years and absolutely swears by them.  That fact alone is the main reason I decided to give them a go, and PinkCherry was kind enough to oblige my curiosity.

With plans to put them through rigorous testing, I packed a few of these condoms along for my weekend away with Jackin January.  During one of several rounds of foreplay we enjoyed that weekend, I rolled one of these over his rigid cock and when he slid into me I think he said something like “Wow” but perhaps it was just a groan of pleasure.

The Handy Slapper, provided by Babeland, is a 2-in-1 toy with all sorts of sadistic potential.  It’s fairly small in size, which is something I always consider when it comes to toys that I pack around with me to events.  I really don’t want to be hauling one of my regular toy boxes around with me, so I have to be choosy about what I take in my travel toy kit, and so toys that are small but effective are most appreciated.

The main reason that I’m featuring this particular product here today is not for the contents of the bottle, but for the really convenient new airless pump feature that they have added.  PinkCherry drew this new feature to my attention and asked if I would give it a try and share my opinion.

I’m sure most of us know what it’s like to fiddle around with the lid of a lubricant bottle, when you’re already as slick as a greased pig.  There has been more than one moment in our bed where one-handed lube dispensing was required, because the other appendage was wedged into some orifice or another.

Trojan has always been my brand of choice, so when I saw that they had rolled out with Supra Microsheer Polyurethane condoms, I jumped on the chance to try them out.

If you haven’t tried a polyurethane condom before, they are different from latex in several ways.  Less stretchy, but thinner, and provide a more natural feel.  They are also odor-free, so none of that funky rubber smell.  Despite the fact that they are less stretchy, we found them to be less constricting than their latex counterparts.

Polyurethane condoms, despite being thinner, are stronger than latex.  They are also less susceptible to deterioration, and they transmit heat more effectively, which I think contributes to the more natural feel.

Jack and I really liked these condoms. They didn’t slip, or break. I didn’t get pregnant either, so that was a bonus It felt more like going bareback than any latex condom we’ve used. Polyurethane also provides a nice alternative for people with latex allergies.

As they haven’t been on the market as long as latex, they haven’t been as extensively tested for STI protection. There is still some debate on exactly how effective they are. If your only concern is pregnancy prevention, these condoms will not disappoint you. If you are with a new partner, or you are uncertain of your own STI status, I would recommend that you stick to latex.

Both silicone and water-based lubricants are safe for use with polyurethane. In fact, even oil-based lubricant will not degrade them.  Trojan Supra’s are pre-lubed with silicone lubricant already, so please be mindful if you decide to use one on your sex toys.  Silicone lubricant will ruin your silicone toys!

This particular toy is designed for both external and internal stimulation.  The shape lends itself beautifully to both applications.  I found maneuvering the curved end between my legs, to rest snuggly over my clitoris, provided an intensely enjoyable masturbation experience.  The shape and rigidity also work well for g-spot stimulation.

The body of the vibrator is made out of hard plastic.  It provides three settings for vibration intensity, controlled by a slide-type switch near the base.  Unfortunately there is also something of a seam which runs along the length of this toy, which as you know, I always take issue with.  I’d use a condom with it, especially if you’re planning to share.
